I had the pleasure of volunteering again this year to create a video at Help-Portrait Ridge Meadows. This is one small way I give back during the holiday season. Help-Portrait has been providing professional make-overs, photoshoots and printed portraits to people in need since 2009.
This year the weather was pretty awful, it was the rainiest and coldest of days and to be honest, I really didn’t feel like driving all the way from East Vancouver to Maple Ridge. However, when I got there and started recording, I quickly remembered why I love this event; it makes people feel good about themselves and others and that makes me feel good.
The process of getting professional make-up and hair styling is transforming and exhilarating. It really makes people look and feel like a million bucks.
All of the volunteers at Help-Portrait do an amazing job, but, I have to say the photographer’s work can be challenging. They get everyone from tiny newborn babies to multiple dogs, large families and everything in between. And, they give it their all, they will keep on trying different angles and poses until they get the perfect portrait.
All of this work is worth it. Seeing the smiles on the peoples’ faces when they receive their portraits is priceless.
