Mara of Davis Bay Tea is an old friend of mine from Elementary school in Gibsons, BC. She is a lover of antiques, funky finds and of course tea. Her love of tea came from her time with her grandmother which I can totally relate to because when I think of my Irish grandmother I always reminisce about drinking tea with her. We drank black tea together every day when I visited or stayed with her. Even though I was a young child of 5 or 6, she didn’t worry about the caffeine or huge amount of white sugar and canned milk I put into my tea, she was old school and let me enjoy the tea however I wanted it. She taught me how to “hot the pot” and she always used a tea cozy on her pot. Everything was laid out and we drank from proper tea cups with saucers and took our sugar from a sugar dish and cream from a creamer dish while sitting at her small dining table. It was a ritual and I think that is a big part of drinking tea, the ritual is very important and different throughout the world.
Davis Bay Tea offers around 100 varieties from green tea to fruit tisane to lapacho and black tea. I’ve tried several of their teas and I love a good fruit tea like their Blackberry Fruit Tisane, but I have to say the Earl Grey Cream Tea is to die for. Davis Bay Tea paired up with a local Sunshine Coast cidery, Brickers, to create their Earl Grey cider. For me this is an unexpected pairing but it really works, it is really delicious, not too sweet with a nice hint of Earl Grey. Visit both of their websites to place an order or find out where to purchase in person. Support local, buy local!
Davis Bay Tea’s tagline is “tea by the sea”. Davis Bay is a gorgeous beach with white sand, rocks, drift wood, beach glass and seaweed, so, we have incorporated these elements into the photo shoot to help give the tea that true Davis Bay “tea by the sea” feeling. Each element is carefully selected and placed to match and pop with different ingredients within each tea. I love the beach and I love tea so shooting photos with this theme is very natural to me and its a pleasure to work with Mara to create these images for her website.
