Each year on Texada Island, Sandcastle Weekend is the busiest and most fun weekend of the year. There is a parade, games, contests, a lip sync contest and sand castle competition. All the while, down on Gillies Bay beach, the Texada Skim Jam is jammin’; people of all ages and abilities are skim boarding on the perfect, sandy beach. You can get a lesson and borrow a board if you don’t have one, its $5 for hours of thrilling entertainment. Boys, girls, women and men all give skimming a try. There are prizes to be won in friendly competitions, some are shows of great athleticism while others are epic wipe outs. Fun is had and lifelong friendships are formed at this family-friendly event.
